Head, Shaft, and Ball as One System
The driver strike happens at your highest recorded speed of the round, so it's also where a compression mismatch shows up loudest. Two bay sensors — Doppler radar and an overhead camera array — cross-check ball speed, launch window, spin, and face-to-path on every swing, and we swap loft, shaft mass, ball compression band, head MOI, length, and CG placement one variable at a time.
Speed that doesn't translate to carry, and wide face scatter with clean-sounding contact, both trace back most often to a compression mismatch rather than a swing flaw.
Sole Design for Two Different Lies
A fairway wood has to work off the tee and the deck, and a head that launches beautifully off a peg can behave completely differently sweeping through turf. Steeper attack angles generally pair with a narrower, more rounded sole; sweeping angles can carry a wider sole without losing speed to turf drag. We test off both a tee and a turf mat so the data reflects on-course conditions.
Loft is compared by actual launch and spin rather than the number stamped on the sole, since fairway wood lofts vary more between manufacturers than iron lofts do.
Sized Against the Gap, Not the Number on the Sole
We measure carry distance for your longest reliable iron and your shortest comfortable fairway wood, then find the loft gap between them — that gap, not tradition, determines whether you need one hybrid or two and exactly what loft each should carry. Head style matters too: more iron-like profiles suit a down-through strike, rounder wood-like profiles suit a sweeping one.
The Number That Matters Is the One at Impact
A club can rest perfectly flat on a bench and still deliver a different lie angle the instant it strikes turf, since posture, grip pressure, and swing plane all shift the shaft during the downswing. We layer impact-tape readings on a lie board against face-angle capture to record what the club actually does at contact — a two-degree gap between resting and dynamic lie is enough to push a consistent miss to one side of the pin.
From there we record carry for every iron in play and work backward through loft, length, and shaft profile until yardage steps land close to equal top to bottom.

Two Same-Loft Wedges Can Behave Nothing Alike
Bounce and grind decide how a wedge's sole interacts with real turf, and that matters as much as the loft stamped on the back. A deep-divot entry angle usually calls for more bounce built in; a shallow, sweeping entry can send extra bounce skipping past the ball. We record entry angle separately on full swings and partial shots, since the two rarely match and partial shots are where bounce selection matters most.

The Club Most Bags Never Had Measured
Count strokes over a full round and the putter usually wins by a wide margin, yet it's the club most golfers carry unchanged for years. A dedicated putting rig records face angle at setup and strike, the shape the putter traces through the stroke, and where on the face contact happens — sorting your motion into an arc, a straight-through path, or something between, and pointing to which face balance actually complements it.
