About

Built By an Engineer Who Couldn't Ignore a Missing Variable

Compression Fit Lab exists because one too many fittings ended with a new set of irons and the exact same box of balls a golfer had been buying for a decade — with nobody ever checking whether the two actually belonged together.

Our Story

From Tolerance Stacks to Golf Clubs

Founder Marcus Whitfield spent nine years as a mechanical test engineer on propulsion hardware out at Redstone Arsenal before opening the bench in 2015. The habit he couldn't shake was treating every measurable variable as worth measuring — and in golf club fitting, ball compression is the variable almost everyone skips, because it's the ball, not the club, and shops don't get commission on a sleeve of balls the way they do on a new driver head.

Eleven years later, the bench has logged compression-matched data across more than nine thousand six hundred builds, from complete beginners picking up the game to competitive amateurs prepping for state qualifiers.

What We Won't Skip

Three Rules the Bench Doesn't Bend

Ball Compression Gets Checked, Always

Every club fitting includes a swing-speed reading and a compression band recommendation, whether you ask for it or not — it's part of the build sheet, not an upsell.

No Manufacturer Quota

We stock heads, shafts, and ball models across every major maker specifically so nothing on the recommendation traces back to a sales target.

The Printout Goes Home With You

Pricing is posted before you ever book, and nobody pushes an order afterward — the spec sheet is yours to keep either way.

Meet the Team Behind the Bench

Every fitter combines recognized club fitting training with real hours logged on the impact bay.
